Bache-Gabrielsen "American Oak" Cognac

Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen is the man behind this American Oak edition. Curious to see how Cognac would react when aged in American oak, he embarked on a series of ageing trials. After two years of experimentation, the first Cognac aged in American oak barrels was born. It is a unique cognac, the result of a dual maturation process lasting several years in French Limousin oak casks, combined with a minimum of six months in new American oak (Alba) casks, imported directly from Tennessee. The latter lends the cognac a distinct character with exotic notes of coconut and pineapple. The result is a smooth and indulgent cognac – proof that innovation really does pay off!

Delicate aromas of exotic fruits such as coconut and pineapple, which blend subtly with notes of vanilla and cocoa from the French oak. On the palate, American Oak reveals the aromatic power of American oak and the smoothness of Limousin oak. The finish is characteristic of a fruity and very indulgent cognac.

The Bache-Gabrielsen house was founded in 1905 by Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen, a Norwegian who had moved to France. Since then, cognac production has remained in the family, and today the founder’s great-grandson, Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen, has taken the reins of the company, with Jean-Philippe Bergier as cellar master. As a négociant-éleveur, the house prides itself on selecting only the finest eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne. It ages them carefully in Limousin oak casks to bring out their full potential.
