VSOP Cognacs

A VSOP ("Very Superior Old Pale") is aged for a minimum of four years, for the youngest spirit in its blend. It is often rounder than a VS, with woody and sometimes spicy notes. The origins of the appellation go back to 1817, when George IV asked Hennessy for a "Very Superior Old Pale". This term was to be used by all Cognac houses. A Cognac of this age can also be called "Reserve" or "Vieux". The average age of a VSOP is often much higher than the minimum requirement of four years.
