Bache-Gabrielsen Cognac Hors d'âge - Grande Champagne
The oldest spirits in this splendid blend were distilled during the Second World War, whilst the youngest date from the 1960s. This remarkable history adds to the appeal of this Hors d’Age, which won a Double Gold Medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The nose is rich and delicate, with aromas of honey, black berries and subtle woody notes. On the palate, the powerful attack has an almost oily texture – a characteristic trait of a very old Grande Champagne – and offers an excellent balance between fruity, floral and spicy woody notes. The finish is impressively long, featuring notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and red berries.
The Bache-Gabrielsen house was founded in 1905 by Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen, a Norwegian who had moved to France. Since then, cognac production has remained in the family, and today the founder’s great-grandson, Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen, has taken the reins of the company, with Jean-Philippe Bergier as cellar master. As a négociant-éleveur, the house prides itself on selecting only the finest eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne. It ages them carefully in Limousin oak casks to bring out their full potential.
