Martell - Blue Swift
In 1783, Martell was the first House to export cognac to the United States. In 2016, it is making history again: Martell Blue Swift is the very first VSOP cognac-based spirit to be aged in bourbon barrels - the AOC cognac specifications do not allow the appellation Cognac for a 'finish' in bourbon barrels.
The eaux-de-vie absorb the aromatic richness of the casks and the result is a delicious note of banana and caramelized pear that reveals the subtle sweetness of vanilla, coconut and spices, all enhanced by a hint of ginger. A particularly smooth spirit, with a round taste and a unique character.
The House of Martell was founded in 1715 by Jean Martell, a daring young man who at just 21 years old was driven by an unwavering commitment to quality. This philosophy of excellence, combined with a capacity for innovation, allows the House to constantly evolve and create new expressions of cognac.
From the very beginning, Jean Martell favored the Borderies area of the Cognac vineyard, which thus became the signature terroir of the House. The clay-limestone soils of the Borderies produce delicate and elegant, floral and sweet eaux-de-vie, characteristic of the Martell style.
