Atha Ruja "Terra Sorella" 2019 - Cannonau di Sardegna, Italy (organic)
Founded in the early 90s by Pietro Pittalis and Annita Salis, the Atha Ruja winery is located in Dorgali, on the east coast of central Sardinia. The vineyards are often just a few kilometres inside the Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu National Park, in the heart of the Oddoene Valley: an area traditionally devoted to wine-growing and known as one of the favourite haunts of the Sardinian variety par excellence, Cannonau.
Terra Sorella's youthful freshness evokes the typical scents of the Sardinian air, with its breeze imbued with notes of myrtle, flowers and wild essences. Once fermentation is complete, the batches destined for this cuvée are aged in stainless steel vats for ten months to preserve the freshness and fragrance of the fruit. Only a small proportion is aged for a few months in French oak barrels to provide smoothness, structure and spicy notes. After being blended with the rest of the batch, it is bottled and matured in glass for three months.
A "Summer Cannonau" with notes of red fruit and Mediterranean scrubland, and soft tannins. Enjoy it at cellar temperature, or even slightly cooler.
