1983 Domaine de Paillas - Cahors
Château Paillas is a family wine estate created in 1978 by the grandfather of the current owners, Nathalie and Robert Lescombes. A winegrower repatriated from Algeria, he undertook a titanic task: to plant 27 hectares of vines on the renowned but difficult terroir of the Causse (= plateau) north of Floressas, overlooking the Lot valley, 20 km northwest of the town of Cahors.
40 years later, the Malbec (originally from Cahors, long before Argentina put it on the international scene), Merlot and Tannat grapes flourish on a superficial stony soil with a limestone mother rock outcropping. This terroir brings a lot of freshness to the Cahors wines of the domaine, vinified and matured with the will to elaborate wines of pleasure, sincere and unvarnished.
