Domaine de la Bouche du Roi "Coquilles Rouges" 2023 - Ile de France (bio)
A full-bodied Cabernet Franc that is well-structured, precise, and flavorful. The nose is rich, revealing notes of ripe fruit with a hint of spice. The palate is round and rich, and the well-defined tannins will soften with age. Hand-harvested. Aged in 300- and 400-liter oak barrels that have previously held 2 to 3 wines.
Located in Davron, the estate’s mission is to revive a historic vineyard thanks to a team of passionate winemakers who have worked in the Bordeaux grands crus, Corsica, and Napa Valley. In the days of the kings, the Versailles region was among France’s greatest wine-growing areas, and its renowned wines were served at the royal table. This terroir vanished abruptly in the late 19th century with the phylloxera crisis.
In 2017, Adrien Pélissié, Julien Bengué, and Julien Brustis, young winemakers originally from Bordeaux, decided to breathe new life into this forgotten terroir. The estate was established in the Versailles Plain on an exceptional 27-hectare site, situated at the very heart of the former hunting grounds of the kings of France.
