Château d'Astros "Absolu" Rosé 2023 - Côtes de Provence (organic)
Absolu rosé is a blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre. This cuvée comes from the most beautiful plots of Astros, old vines that flourish on a dry and chalky terroir, typically Provencal. It offers discreet aromas of lemon and exotic fruits completed by a light iodine note. A rich and complex expression, remarkably balanced, with a mineral touch for freshness
Maximin Martin, a rich soap maker from Marseille, acquired the Astros land in 1802. His grandson, a lover of Italian art, built in 1860 a majestic château inspired by Tuscan villas. At his death, he bequeathed the estate to the grandson of his first cousin Joseph Maurel.
Bernard Maurel gave a new impetus to the estate in 1963. He replanted the vineyards and built a cellar near the castle to produce, in 1970, its first AOC Côtes-de-Provence. The estate, whose flagship product was red wine, specialized in the production of rosé wines.
Today, it is Bruno Maurel, a priest at the Jean-Joseph Allemand youth institute in Marseille, who represents the 8th generation. Assisted by his nephews and nieces, he manages the family business. Since 2021, Château d'Astros is Certified Organic.
