Château de Fesles - Bonnezeaux 2009
An emblematic property of the Anjou region, the Château de Fesles as well as its vineyard were built in the 11th century at the top of the 4th highest point of the Loire Valley. Its exceptional geographical position as well as its proximity to the river Layon allow it to produce wines with a racy and complex character. It currently covers 48 hectares of vines planted with Chenin Blanc (24ha) for the production of Anjou Blanc, Coteaux du Layon and Bonnezeaux, Cabernet Franc (18ha) and Grolleau (2ha).
The Bonnezeaux is a sweet wine which is the fruit of a very specific harvest whose secret is an alchemy between soil, climate, over-ripening of the grapes, and extreme rigor in the sorting. From October to November, the grape-pickers manually select the best bunches covered with botrytis (noble rot). Also used in the elaboration of Bonnezeaux, the technique of passerillage, a method which allows to obtain an over-ripening of the grapes by natural drying. A long and slow fermentation takes place, during which the must with a high concentration of sugar is transformed into a golden wine which rests in oak and acacia barrels until spring.
Notes of candied fruits, pineapple, pear, with a little spicy touch.
