Meerendal 2015 Pinotage - Afrique du Sud
Pinotage is the emblematic grape variety of South Africa. It is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault - previously known as Hermitage, hence the word Pinotage, a contraction of the words Pinot and Hermitage. It was created in 1925 by Abraham Perold, then a researcher at Stellenbosch University. Well adapted to its terroir of origin, it combines the robustness of Cinsault with the finesse of Pinot Noir.
Meerendal Wine Estate is a family-run vineyard founded in 1702 and located in South Africa's Western Cape, just 20 minutes from Cape Town. This cuvée offers aromas of red fruit (cherries, plums), spices and dark chocolate, with hints of cedar wood and a smoky edge. On the palate, a Pinotage with flavours of red and black berries and silky tannins.
