Bernard Baudry - La Croix Boissée Chinon 2015
Made from small parcels of 15 to 40 year old vines planted on a very chalky soil, La Croix Boissée delivers a superb substance marked by firm and "chalky" tannins. Aged 24 months in barrels (1 to 3 years) and bottled unfiltered, this Chinon offers complexity, fatness and very ripe fruits. It will fully express itself after a few years of cellaring (2 to 20 years).
Coming from a family of winegrowers from Cravant les Coteaux, Bernard Baudry settled in 1975 at the head of a small 2 hectare estate. Matthieu, his son, studied in the Mâconnais and then in Bordeaux. After a year of training in Tasmania and California, he joined the family estate in 2000.
The estate now owns 32 hectares of vines in the Chinon Appellation Contrôlée, in the communes of Cravant les Coteaux and Chinon. The main grape variety grown is Cabernet Franc (about 90%) to which is added a small production of Chenin Blanc (about 10%).
