Domaine Chiroulet "La Côte d'Heux" 2021 Blanc - Côtes de Gascogne
"La Côte d'Heux" is a dry white wine from a terroir where the gros manseng, its only constituent, reaches a maturity that is conducive to its full expression. Subtle and elegant, the woody character embellishes the fresh and slightly mentholated aromas. A full mouth, a smooth texture, juicy fruit and a clear mineral character.
Located in the middle of the hillside, the plot is made up of a deep vein of fine clay on a limestone base, the soil providing both fatness and nervousness. The harvest takes place at the end of October, when the fruit is at its peak of maturity. Fermentation takes place at low temperature, before maturing on fine lees in tuns, with regular stirring of the lees to bring structure and richness.
The symbolic first stone of Domaine Chiroulet was laid in 1893, the year in which the Armagnac community mentioned him as one of its members. At that time, the property covered five modest hectares dedicated to mixed farming and livestock, like many Gers farms of the time.
Today, Philippe Fezas is in charge of the property. Guided by a sense of challenge and with a background as an agricultural engineer and oenologist, he has set the estate on a course of excellence. In particular, his experience in wine maturation, acquired with Seguin-Moreau, a reference cooper, broadens and refines his knowledge through his own wines. He practices responsible viticulture in phase with his environment.
