Maverlan "Les Sabias" 2019
Olivier Pucek has lived in the Charente since 1990. Passionate about wine and viticulture, it was while looking for a few acres of vines that he discovered the historic vineyard of Saint-Sornin: a sloping hillside facing south, where vines have been grown since the 17th century. With the help of Henri Jammet, a pioneer with his famous Guimbelot vineyard, he planted in 2009 a little more than 2 hectares of vines. He focused on Gamay à Jus blanc, and also Gamay de Bouze (a forgotten grape variety of Burgundian origin, with red juice) and Pinot Noir. Thus was born MAVERLAN.
In 2019, affected by the spring frost, Olivier Pucek buys old-vines Cabernet Franc grapes that he combines with his Pinot Noir. After fermentation, the wine ages 14 months in barrels. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered, and only 1000 bottles were produced!
