1978 Cru d'Arche Pugneau - Sauternes
Although less known than some prestigious Sauternes producers, Cru d'Arche Pugneau is nevertheless worthy of some of the greatest Sauternes. The Daney family, with origins in the region dating back to 1670, acquired Cru d'Arche Pugneau in 1923. Jean-Francis Daney is the current owner; he runs the 11 ha of vineyards located in the former village of Boutoc, now in the Preignac district.
Cru d'Arche Pugneau benefits from a remarkable terroir. Its grape variety, 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle is typical of Sauternes wines. If the authorized yield is 25 hl/ha, the average there is 15 to 16 hl/ha, and one to six passages are necessary to harvest the grapes at optimum maturity. Sauternes wines often develop with age aromas of quince, exotic fruits and honey.
