Domaine Jean Masson & Fils, "Cœur" 2019 - Apremont
Jean-Claude Masson is without doubt the champion of Jacquère. The fifth generation of Masson winemakers, he has been managing this 10-hectare estate located in the small Savoyard village of Apremont, south of Chambéry, since 1984. He works his vineyard with passion, harvests at the right time and ages the wines in stainless steel tanks, depending on the terroir - and his mood. His wines offer a fullness and richness rarely seen in Savoie. They are capable of evolving and gaining in complexity for more than a decade, while retaining the incisive and fluid character of the Jacquère.
The Cuvée Coeur d'Apremont is produced each year from the same plots, where the absolute grassing of the soil and the age of the vines (80 years on average) cause a spectacular reduction in yields. Thus, when the fruit is picked at optimal maturity, it expresses its full aromatic capacity. The result, after a long fermentation on fine lees, is a powerful, straight wine, characterized by exceptional candied fruit notes: apricot, fig & peach.
