Château Mangot - "Quintessence " 2015, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
Château Mangot comes from a historic vineyard that goes back to 1546, and which has belonged to the Todeschini family since 1989. Located in the east of the Saint-Emilion appellation, in the commune of Saint Etienne de Lisse, Château Mangot covers 37 hectares in one piece, including 34 hectares of vineyards.
Born in 1996, Quintessence comes from a small parcel of 1.87 hectares, located at an altitude of 45 meters and planted with the oldest merlots (80 to 85 years old) on limestone soil. These old vines with a particularly long vegetative cycle offer, whatever the vintage, small yields with small bunches of red grapes... the caviar of wine!
The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months. The barrels are meticulously selected from 6 to 8 different coopers and year after year, the selection is refined to obtain the best possible match between the origin of the wood and the toasting level. A great deal of monitoring and tasting is done during the maturation process to preserve the unique style of this cuvée.
Quintessence, as its name indicates, is a complex, intense and fleshy wine, but also refined and subtle, often recognized for its floral or licorice notes.
